State of AI in Cloud Development 2026

Insights from a survey of enterprise software teams on how they're using AI to build in the cloud

The Findings

300+ enterprise developers and team managers at large enterprises told us how AI is changing the way they build and ship for the cloud.

AI Coding in Practice

  • 65%create at least 2x more code since adopting AI.

  • 32%create at least 5x more code

The acceleration

Driving an increase in output is growing adoption of fully autonomous AI agents and deployment across every stage of the software delivery lifecycle.

Trust & Quality

  • 40%of AI-generated code never makes it to production, on average

The shipping gap

On average, developers estimated that 61% of AI-generated code is released to production. More developers estimated that they ship less than half than those who release 80% or more of AI-generated code to production.

AI agents & the cloud

  • 79%give AI agents access to cloud environments

  • 26%of those let agents into production

  • 97%have concerns about giving AI agents cloud access

The access dilemma

AI agents now deploy, test, and debug code, so most teams give them cloud access — sometimes all the way to production. Almost everyone is worried about what that could cost them.

See What Developers Really Think About AI

Walk through this brief video to learn more about how enterprise software developers responded to our survey about AI agents building cloud applications.

How We Ran the Survey

Dimensional Research invited independent sources of development stakeholders to an online survey on AI coding tools, agentic AI, and cloud development environments.

  • Who qualified

Every respondent develops applications deployed to public cloud infrastructure, in a hands-on developer or team manager role.

  • Time frame

Fielded online September 7–14, 2026, in English. A snapshot of how teams were working with AI and the cloud that week.
